Passionflower is a perennial climbing plant of the passionflower family. The shape of its flowers is very peculiar, which makes it called passion flower.
The active part of this plant are the aerial parts, which contain flavonoids (among which the heterosides scaftoside and isoescaftoside, vitexin, isovitexin, vicenin, lucecin, among others) as well as traces of essential oil and phytosterols. The main active substance is vitexin.
Properties
Traditionally, passionflower has been used as an anxiolytic, tranquilizer, and spasmolytic. It favors the prolongation of sleep and inhibits aggressiveness and anguish.
